Description of Project

Construction of 12kV Switch Station, at the University of California, San Diego, complete with concrete building, MV switchgear, underground ductbank, MV cables, SCADA system, telecom, mechanical, fire alarm, reclaimed water irrigation system, etc., while maintain a fully-operational campus.

Construction included a new 3,200 square foot Architectural Switch Station located in the middle of the UCSD campus. The new Switch Station was used for power distribution and used as the design for future Switch Stations. Ryan Co. installed new switchgear lineup including PT’s, CPT’s, multiple-phase switches, and a quantity of 15 – 40KAIC Vacuum Breakers, as well as spare spaces for future breakers, new feeder circuits, transferred existing feeders from existing vault to the new switch station. Ryan Co. provided coordination for UCSD regarding schedule for outages to prevent any loss of power around the campus or nearby Veteran’s Affairs Hospital. Project also included rebuilding of existing bays in active switchgears to replace breakers with the new 40KAIC breakers in two other substations on campus. Traffic control and safety measures to ensure the safety of the high volume of student pedestrians and vehicles around 30-foot deep ductbank.
